Description
Women's paisley shawl stole is the
most elegant of all shawls made in India. Often people
seem to value these shawls even more than pashmina
cashmere. This is because paisley is warmer and the
designs are classic, created in 19th century. Cashmere
pashmina on the other hand are softer. Paisley shawls
can usually be worn on one side only. Probably this is
what makes the paisley shawls more authentic. When you
wear these shawls, heads turn. You truly look like a
connoisseur.
Two Indian weavers, sitting side by side at the loom,
could take up to three years to produce a top quality
shawl, the price of which might be equivalent to that of
a house. When women in the west fell in love with these
Indian imports, European weavers attempted to produce a
similar product at a lesser price, which resulted in the
invention of the jacquard loom. One of the towns where
the shawls were produced was Paisley, near Glasgow,
whose name became synonymous with both the shawls and
the teardrop or pinecone motif, which decorated them.
Paisley pattern is a droplet shaped vegetable motif,
also called buta, similar to half of the Yin yang
symbol, the Indian bodhi tree leaf, or the mango tree.
Our Customers' Views
* Beautiful sundress and the fabric is lightweight and
breathable!
* dress is very well made, however, where the front of the dress is fitted
with seams, the back is not. kind of
hangs strangely. I needed to get it altered.
* The shawl is beautiful. And Malini's assistance was very kind and
helpful. However, I was expecting the shawl to be
ivory in color. Somehow, in spite of our several e-mails, this was
not conveyed, and the description of the shawl
(particularly the color) in Amazon was not clear enough. Hopefully,
next time our communication will be clearer. Thank
you.
* Ordered 3 shawls las gifts late in the week before Christmas & they
arrived Christmas eve to rave reviews. Will buy
from this seller again. Thanks!
* Everything arrived on time & in good condition. The scarfs were a
gift & they looked beautiful, quality product.
* Very quick service, scarf was beautiful. Mother-in-law loved it!
* Great quality and beautiful items. Amazing customer service, even
during the holidays. I was very impressed by
ShalinIndia and now recommend them to all my friends.
Indian Clothes as defined in Wikipedia
Salwar kameez and dupatta
The salwar kameez is another form of popular dress for
females. It consists of loose trousers (the salwar)
topped by a long loose shirt (the kameez). It originates
from the state of Punjab in India, but now has become
popular all across India, and other South Asian
countries. It is commonly worn with a narrow scarf
called a dupatta, which can be used to cover the head,
or just draped over the shoulders. The salwar kameez is
most common in the northwestern part of India.
Lehenga, choli, and odhani
The women of Rajasthan and Gujarat often wear colorful
swirling skirts called lehenga, paired with a short
bodice called a choli. If they must cover their heads,
they do so with bright veils called odhani.
Men's clothing
The most common male attire consists of the dhoti and
kurta, worn in most of the western and central regions.
A sherwani is typically worn for special occasions. Men
of northern India and the Punjab may also wear salwar
kameez, often in plain white cotton, and top the kameez
with a dark waistcoat. The lungi (a type of wrap-around)
is worn in many parts of India, but depending on the
social practices of the region it may be restricted to
indoor-wear.
